Hula Hoops Trip Report: Part 1

Take-Out Lunch from @hulahoopssf (1/2) We are trying to balance "stay-at-home" with "support-your-local-tiki-bar", so we did take-out brunch from Hula Hoops. This tiki bar and restaurant in South San Francisco isn’t particularly close to us in Fremont, but with light traffic it’s closer than it’s ever been. Hula Hoops is offering take-out food and cocktails through a number of delivery services, as well as take out directly via telephone or via an app. We opted for telephone on the assumption this would give the venue more of the profits. This was tiki bar number twelve for me in 2020, and you can step three feet inside the venue for your take-out order. Bummer: They were not ready to serve Ube Pancakes when we called at Noon Saturday, so Mrs. Mai Tai opted for another item from the menu. Unfortunately it seems the item while on their menu wasn’t actually available and we ended with an item with similar first ingredient. There was some discussion when I picked up the order and the restaurant made it right more or less, but I guess what I’d suggest for all of these new-to-takeout places is to verify in full fidelity what you’ve ordered. The Trader Vic’s Mai Tai I ordered seemed to be missing something, even accounting for dilution for the ride home. If you’re ordering take-out and have a long drive home, ask for no ice in the cocktail. More positive stuff in part two of the trip report. #tiki #tikibar #tikidrinks #tikiculture #tropicaldrinks #cocktails #craftcocktails #rum #rhum #maitai #1944maitai #buztai #southsf #southsanfrancisco
